The Beatles Post

Hi and welcome.

I'm a Beatles fan. Say what you will about them, you have to give them credit, for better or worse, for creating the template that most bands in popular music follow. They exemplified the notion of a band writing and playing their own material, which was not really the case before them. They also were the first band to play in large stadiums, which is the norm today. The also happened to have made incredibly beautiful and moving music.....but that's just my opinion.

Another thing they did, which did not seem to catch on after them, was to make movies that were not just a film of them performing. I'm talking about A Hard Day's Night and Help, were there was of bit of a story and funny situations to play around in. In this case, I think they were definitely following the idea of a popular musician staring in a feature film that Elvis made successful. I know that there are other movies from that have popular singers or bands in them, but none of those seem to be as memorable as the respective Beatles and Elvis movies are. Perhaps, it's just that the Beatles and Elvis were just personable and famous enough to make it work.

Anyway, I found 3 clips that are from the Beatles last film Let It Be. Contrary to what I wrote earlier, Let It Be is in fact a performance film, with them rehearsing and recording songs that would eventually appear on their last album, also called Let It Be. I've wonder if this film will ever be officially reissued, and my guess is that it may a while before it ever happens. I say this because most of what I've heard about it is that it mostly shows them struggling and arguing, basically illustrating their not too far in the distance breakup. Understandably, it's just something that the surviving Beatles and the widows of Lennon and Harrison would not like to revisit.

These 3 clips are what are probably the highlight of the film, their rooftop performance which serves as the finale for the film.

Enjoy
